Description

Details

In 1927, Jeanne Lanvin asked André Fraysse to inttroduced a fragrance for her daughter’s 30th birthday. Fraysse was only 27 years old, but with Paul Vacher’s facilitate he released what is often recognized as the second great aldehydic perfume fragrance, and one of the 5 most reputable in the world: Arpège. In 1993, the legendary Arpège was reochestrated by Hubert Fraysse (after André Fraysse & Paul Vacher’s formula). unlike many examples of reformulation, the modernized Arpège plays deference to its classical roots, with the carefully balanced composition & the high quality of its ingredients. it is not the same perfume fragrance as the original Arpège, but it is a beautiful composition still. it has a beamy sweet character that is clearly in the tradition of Chanel No. 5, with the fragrance downfall against a drape of aldehydes. The gentle clarity of floral main notes lends the composition an ethereal feel. Through the haze of aldehydes, the floral main notes appear in fast succession before dissolving into an elegant base. If the unique formulation is reminiscent of layers of black brocaded silk, the new is of decorated velvet. The note of vetiver is like cool glass beading against the shine softness of an oriental accord comprised of sandalwood, patchouli & musk. Its cool mist soars about the center of the base notes, just like aldehydic veil was shrouding the sweetness of flower petals earlier.

About the Brand

Founded in 1889 at 22, Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré by Jeanne Lanvin (Paris 1867 - 1946), Lanvin is the oldest Parisian fashion house. From Haute couture (1909) to men's fashion (1926), decoration (1920), and perfume ("My Sin" in 1925, "Arpège" 1927), the young milliner became the Ambassador of French elegance; transforming her hat and clothing workshops into a veritable fashion empire.

Jeanne Lanvin drew inspiration from her only child; Marguerite (later known as Marie-Blanche de Polignac, a talented opera singer). Marguerite succeeded her mother in 1946 and remained in charge until her death in 1958.

The delicately gilded figure on the spherical Arpège perfume bottle depicting Jeanne Lanvin and her daughter going to a ball has remained the symbol of this motherly love. It became the House logo in 1954.

The Lanvin blue came to life through Madame's spontaneous enthusiasm for a Fra Angelico painting. Along with the motifs created by Armand-Albert Rateau, Jeanne Lanvin's decorator and partner, Lanvin created a distinctive image which remains to this day.

Jeanne Lanvin's successors include Antonio del Castillo, Dominique Morlotti, Jules-François Crahay, Maryll Lanvin, Claude Montana and Patrick Lavoix. Their work has successfully immortalized a very Parisian, elegant couture style.

Since 1993, the House has focused on luxury ready-to-wear and accessories as well as perfumes.
